What Procedures Would I See a General Surgeon For?
General surgeons provide treatment for conditions such as:
- Hernia Removal: A hernia is tissue protruding through weak spots in surrounding tissue. These can occur in the stomach, groin, belly button or at the incision site of a prior surgery.
- Appendectomy: the emergency removal of an inflamed appendix. If appendicitis is left untreated, the appendix can rupture and be potentially fatal.
- Breast Disorders: Lumpectomy, biopsy, and mastectomy
- Melanoma Treatment: Skin cancer, or melanoma, tumors must be surgically removed. In the case of melanoma, lymph node removal may also be a component.
